Penang’s LRT Groundbreaking Ceremony Expected in December

The eagerly anticipated groundbreaking for Penang’s Light Rail Transit (LRT) project, led by Mass Rapid Transit Corp Sdn Bhd (MRT Corp), is projected for December 2024. State Infrastructure, Transport, and Digital Committee Chairman Zairil Khir Johari shared that MRT Corp is evaluating multiple locations for the ceremony, taking into account logistical factors and other essential considerations to ensure an ideal site for this landmark event.

With plans underway, the construction could launch simultaneously across various spots in Penang, based on MRT Corp’s final project decisions. Zairil confirmed that discussions between MRT Corp and the SRS Consortium are nearing completion, paving the way for the commencement of construction once all preparations are set.
